Each year, Vancouver Yukoners’ Association sponsors six events for members to gather socially. These events include five luncheons, one of which is the Annual General Meeting. Our largest function is the very popular Annual Reunion Weekend at the River Rock Casino Hotel in Richmond.
As well, there may be summer picnics hosted by associated clubs which are very popular with our members. Finally, there is an associated function, the International Sourdough Reunion.
Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting is held during the April luncheon. It is at this meeting that the executive members are elected for the year. Although the business meeting is a little longer than the other mid-day gatherings, it is kept as short as possible to allow everyone to visit and enjoy a snack together.
Luncheons
These mid-day events are usually held on the third Thursday of February, April, October and the first Thursday of December.
Friends gather in the meeting room at about 11:30 a.m. and disperse about 2:00 p.m, in time for our Island members to catch their ferry.
There is a short business meeting associated with these luncheons. The primary purpose of the event is to provide for fellowship accompanied with a light meal of coffee, sandwiches and sweets. There is a nominal charge of $15 per person for the meal.
Annual Reunion Weekend
The annual Reunion is the gala event of the year for the Vancouver Yukoners’ Association. It is held on a weekend in April with a hospitality room open on the Friday evening and during the day on Saturday, a grand banquet on Saturday evening and the opportunity for having breakfast together on the Sunday morning.
Summer Picnic
Although the Vancouver Yukoners’ Association does not sponsor a summer picnic, many of our members enjoy attending those of affiliated clubs.
The first one of the season is by the Okanagan Yukoners. It is usually held at the Summerland Ornamental Gardens in mid to late June.
The second summer picnic has now passed into the annals of time. After much hard work by members on the Island but with diminishing attendance, this event is no longer viable. Islanders do have a Christmas Luncheon planned. Stay tuned
International Sourdough Reunion (ISR)
The Vancouver Yukoners’ Association is one of several social organizations with northern roots. Each year a club hosts a combined gathering of members from as far north as Fairbanks, Alaska to as far south as San Diego, California. The clubs form the foundation of the International Sourdough Reunion.
