For the past couple of years, an item on our meeting agenda has been a discussion about the future of this association.
Some members attending these meetings would like to see the Society be dissolved in accordance with the Societies Act of British Columbia. Other members attending would like to see us continue for years to come.
It has now come down to crunch time and bring this matter to a vote. Therefor a proposed VYA dissolution resolution has been presented for inclusion and voting on at our next meeting on December 7, 2023.
The proposed resolution to be considered follows.
Proposed VYA Dissolution Resolution
Whereas the Vancouver Yukoners’ Association:
- Has few members living in the Greater Vancouver Area,
- Has been unable to elect either a President or Vice President for several years.
- Has directors and webmaster who have served several terms, are at least 70 years old, and do not expect to be relieved at the end of their current terms,
- Has no Newsletter Editor,
- No longer rents meeting space for the few meetings now held,
- Accepts that there will be no more Annual Reunions,
- Has given responsibility for the Scholarship Funds to the Yukon Foundation.
Be it Resolved:
- That the Vancouver Yukoners’ Association be Dissolved as of 31 December 2023 in accordance with the May 2023 amendments to the BC Society Act.
- That all required fees be paid,
- That sufficient funds be retained to support the duties of the record keeper, and
- That all remaining funds be transferred to the Yukon Foundation, Whitehorse Yukon, in the name of the Vancouver Yukoners’ Association for the benefit of all Yukoners.
